Graphs

Today in maths we gathered data and used Google Sheets to make a column graph.

Our topic was preferred drinks and our variable was gender.

The features of my graph are the titles, the options, and the variables.

From the graph I notice that Juice is the most popular.

We used different coloured columns to represent the different genders.

Clay Earrings

For action stations I have been making earrings out of clay with Fi.

We started by designing out earrings, I wanted to make avocados. Then Millie told me I should but a cat in them, and Alexia said that on the other side I should put a cat butt. So that is what I did. I also made some very quick marble pink and yellow earrings, so now I have two pairs. When I was making my avocado cats, one of the earrings accidentally got baked when it wasn’t ready and there wasn’t a hole to put the hangy things, so I turned them into studs.

I enjoyed making my earrings.

Week 6 Blog Review

This is my reflective blog for Week 6.

One thing I achieved was Tech. I designed my game which I am making for Makerspace.

Another thing that went well was Choice and Challenge. It was my first time, and I led bikes with the younger kids and my friends. It was fun.

I forgot my togs on Friday and I was really happy because that meant I didn’t have to do swimming sports or any swimming at all.

Maths

Today we did 100 division questions in 10 minutes.

I got 98/100 in 9m 4s.

I did worse than my multiplication test.

Next time I want to complete the test in 8m.

To do this, one fact I’m going to focus on is 108 divided by 12 = 9.

Week 5 Reflection

This week for Tech I have been in Makerspace like I have all term. We’re making games, using circuit boards we have been making in the last few sessions.

I’m making a ‘Steady Hand’ game, which is the easiest of the three to make. What happens is you use the handle to navigate your way along a twisty – turny line, and if it touches the line, it makes a beeping sound. The goal is to get it from one side to the other.

The games I’m not making are harder, the middle hardest is like a matching game, I’m not entirely sure how it works, but you have to match stuff to other stuff. The hardest game to make is an operation game. I don’t know how that works.

Tech so far has been quite fun, and I’m really excited to make my game.

Maths

Today we did a times table test to see if we knew our multiplication facts.

We had 100 questions and 10 minutes.

I got 99/100 in 7 minutes and 37 seconds.

My goal is to work on speed. Next time I want to do it in 6 minutes.

To achieve this I am going to learn 4×8 by heart.

Tech

Since I’m now in Tangaroa, (Year 7) every Thursday we go to some random place on Earth (I’m not sure what it’s called.) and we do tech. Tech is where we all go with our groups to a station in the place. There’ makerspace, food, sewing, and more. I’m in group 7e with none of my friends.

We took the bus there, I was on bus C with Kera and Alexia who are in group 7d together. (Sooo lucky…) There were a lot of people there because some were meant to be on bus B, but we were told to go here. Alexia had to go sit with some other people, but me and Kera were lucky and ended up sitting next to each other… and another random person. We talked, but it was very noisy and we couldn’t really hear each other. I was actually meant to be on bus B, so this was my only bus ride with Kera and Alexia before we were cruelly torn apart.

We got there and we lined up in our groups. I didn’t know where 7e was meant to line up, but I found the other people in my group in the very last line. Then a woman named Mrs Donaldson took us into a room for makerspace. The room had lots of wood and machines. I assumed we’d be making stuff with wood. We all sat down around a table and had to buddy up. I was with Mira, and we were given a small bag of very tiny stuff. We learnt about what they were, and what they do, and we talked about what families they belonged to like LEDs and Capacitors. It was quite boring.

Then, with our group we were each given a light kit thingie, and we were told to use the batteries and the LEDs to make a working light. Me and Mira did it, with her playing with my hair the whole way through, and then we made two LEDs light up with one battery.

We went back to the bus, 7e now in bus B, and me with no friends. I sat alone the whole way back.

My First Week in Tangaroa

Now that it’s 2025, I am in year 7. I’m so cool. I rollerblade to school with my friend Millie, who biked for some reason, and we went to the amazing new classroom.

I put away my roller blades. It was really fun getting to use them to get to school. I saw all my friends again, although one of them only came the first day and then was never seen again. (Not true.) It was still fun getting to see them all again.

The school is having a 10th birthday party this afternoon, and I am excited to see everything and everyone! (except maybe my sister.)

We got to organise camp stuff, like tents and food, which was quite fun and a relief to finally decide what we would eat for dinner. (2 Minute Noodles and sandwiches.)

It was hard getting back into schedule, waking up at 7:30 instead of 10:30. After miraculously getting to school and meeting up with my besties, we had break time, and I hadn’t brought my hat so I couldn’t do bike patrol. The next day, at break time, more than once I accidentally almost stumbled into my old classroom. (My friends pulled me away.)

So, this week has been fun, I liked meeting new people, and the old ones from last year and the year before. Tangaroa is really cool.
